An extension programme to Roshni Nilaya Kindergarten was organized on Thursday, 5th October 2023 from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Realizing that storytelling is a significant educational strategy to promote language development, 29 II BA students of Psychology focused on this theme to help develop concentration, social and communication skills of 59 kindergarteners. They were accompanied by Dr. Sandra Sunitha Lobo and Asst. Prof. Roshini Monica Goveas,

The programme revolved around guiding the children through travel into the Kingdom of Light using a visual story. The students were introduced to beautifully adorned beauties like Princess Anna and Queen Elsa along with a snowman. The importance of sibling love was depicted. The children were then led to the jungle by Keith the Explorer where a few II BA students wore masks of an elephant, a lion, a fox, bear, and tiger. The group in unison sang the famous song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". This was followed by the boogie dance. Thereafter, games were conducted where the kindergarteners were grouped mathematically. The children were asked simple arithmetic sums (addition and subtraction) and were encouraged to re-group themselves according to the answers to those sums.

Through this extension activity, the II BA students understood Piaget’s and Vygotsky's theories of cognitive development better with the affirmation that cognitive abilities are socially guided and constructed. There was a general knowledge quiz and the kindergarteners were outstanding. This led the tiny tots finally to the treasure of goodies. The programme ended with the II BA students putting their happy feet forward with the penguin dance.

A fun learning ambience was created. The students visited the kindergarten as college students and left the premises nostalgic with a childlike spirit.
