The Post-Graduation Department of Criminology and Forensic Science organized a guest lecture on “Crime against Women in India and Relevant Laws” for first year students of MSc Criminology and Forensic Science on 20th October 2023 at 2:30 pm in the PG Department of CFS. Ms. Swapna Gowri, Assistant Professor, Department of Criminology, Acharya Institute of Graduation Studies, Bengaluru and also alumni of the department was the resource person. The objective of the session is to provided knowledge with regard to the various crimes committed on women, causes, preventive methods and relevant laws.
Mr. Niketh P S., Assistant Professor, PG Department of Criminology and Forensic Science introduced the resource person. The session began with a discussion on the crimes against women in India both ancient days and at present. She spoke about the obscenity, dowry death, acid attack, cruelty, outraging the modesty of a women, rape and sexual assaults, domestic violence, honour killing, POCSO (Protection of Child from Sexual Offenses) Act 2012, IPC sections related to crimes on women. Further, there was a discussion about the cases related to women, shared her experience during field placement and internship.
Students gave positive feedback about the session stating that the session was interesting, interactive and informative. Students expressed that they could discussion various cases pertaining to crimes on women and clear the queries. The session ended at 4.00pm with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Elizabeth Deepika, class representative of first year MSc CFS.
