Ist Year Msw students along with three faculty members of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya reached Varkur village at NR Pura in Chikkamagaluru for their rural exposure on the 23rd of November 2019. On the first day, the students visited the houses of the people and invited them for the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) at St. Anthony Church premises. Around 20 people participated actively in the PRA in the evening. Along with the villagers, students conducted the different PRA methods which included a timeline, social mapping, resource mapping, seasonal mapping, Venn diagram transact walk and wealth ranking.

On the 24th of November 2019, the students conducted various sessions for the children and the women on Soap Making, Phenol making, Cleanliness, Career Guidance, Values and Morals. In the evening, a transact walk was conducted and students visited Mr Verghese house, a local resident to study about the rubber plantations, tapping, process and marketing. At Night there was a campfire. During this time people were involved in discussion, games, evaluation, dancing and singing. It was also time for the students to exhibit their talents.

On the 25th of November 2019, there was a visit to Bandimatta village of Balehonnur town, for a focused group discussion with the people who were affected by the flood on August 9th 2018. Students along with the villagers discussed about the causes and the precautionary measures could be taken in the future during floods. In the evening a cultural programme was held for the villagers by the students, where the entire village came in large numbers.

On the 26th of November 2019, the last day of the camp encompassed of an evaluation, as to how the camp went on and students opinions on it. The camp ended by a visit to the Sirimane falls. The camp was very useful and a learning experience to all. The way of living, the problems encountered, the adjustments, the discussions, the nature, the small joys and bonding with the learning all made the camp a memorable one.
