School of Social Work in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai set up the School of Vocational Education (SVE) to provide immediate and concrete interventions to improve the lives of the disadvantaged and marginalized youth. This was envisaged to cater to those who are excluded by the formal school education system through appropriate vocational training programmes.
The Approach adopted by TISS-SVE is called the Work Integrated Training programme mapped to National Skill Qualification Framework [NSQF] approved by UGC & AICTE. For the first time in India, it was introduced with an emphasis on job-specific skills rather than a broad-based education.
The programmes offering employable skills are
1) Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) in Early Child Development (3 years)
2) Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) in Child Protection (3 years)
(Multiple entry & exit system for the B.Voc programmes)
3) Diploma/certificate programme in Geriatric Care (1 year)
Student eligibility criteria: SSC and PUC
All certificates/diplomas/degrees shall be awarded by TISS in its capacity as Deemed University
