M.Sc. CFS (Criminology & Forensic Science)

Criminology is the social study of crime, including who commits crimes, why they commit them, their consequences, and how to avoid them. It relates to how people behave, communicate, and organize themselves in society. It does, however, integrate study and principles from other disciplines such as philosophy, anthropology, biology, and psychology. Forensic science or Criminalistics is the application of science to criminal and civil laws, primarily on the criminal side during criminal investigations, as governed by legal principles of admissible proof and criminal procedure. This Criminology and Forensic Science programme (Postgraduate) is unique in its design due to the convergence of these scientific fields of study. In today's world, they are inextricably related.

As a multi-dimensional phenomenon, delinquency is on the rise in society at an alarming rate. Several new technological advances have also been misappropriated by criminals. Several modern innovations have been misused too by some for their criminal enterprise. Security has become a victim in today's world, with crimes like human rights violations, cyber atrocities, financial frauds, terrorism, and white- collar crime becoming the norm. Concurrently, traditional crime is on the rise at an unprecedented pace. To counteract such anti-social actions and gain the upper hand, society must actively search out newer approaches. Increased academic awareness and the start of related research will go a long way toward mitigating all forms of crime. As a result, criminologists and forensic experts must be one step ahead of criminals to combat such crimes in society.

In this sense, academic training in the use of digital technologies in crime prevention and detection will be greatly advantageous to law enforcement agencies and society as a whole. As a result, visionary Dr. B Ashoka took the initiative to advance the cause of society's need, and the college began offering M.Sc. in Criminology and Forensic Science in the academic year 2011-2012. The programme's goal is to train students to gain academic and research expertise in the areas of criminology, security methods, forensic science, police science, crime scene management, financial institution investigations, victimology, criminal justice system, cyber forensics, and forensic queries.

Eligibility for Admission:

• B.A./B.Sc. in Criminology/ Forensic Science/ Criminology and Forensic Science/ Computer Applications/ Computer Science.
• B.A. with any one of the following subjects: Psychology/ Journalism.
• B.Sc. with any one of the following subjects: Physics/ Chemistry/ Botany/ Zoology/ Micro-Biology/ Bio-Chemistry/ Bio- Technology/ Statistics.
• Degree in Law (3 years or 5 years course)
• Students who have taken Science subject in their PUC and have pursued any degree recognized by the University are also eligible for the course.
• International Students: An equivalent degree with related subjects approved by the University.
