On 23/07/2024, Tuesday, a group of 26 students of I MSW, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya visited St. Ann’s Providential Home for the Aged along with their faculty in charge Ms. Ramya B. The objective of the field visit was to provide entertainment and companionship to the elderly inmates and engage in empathetic conversation with them.
The student reached the venue at 10:45 am. Fr. Roshan gave the welcome speech and told the group the purpose of the visit. The students broke into smaller groups of 2-3 students and interacted personally with each of the inmates. Sr. Jyothi, Sister Superior, briefed the students about the history of their organization and how St. Ann’s Providential Home was established. The students provided recreation for the inmates by singing Kannada, Konkani and Malayalam songs. Ms. Phalguni delivered a vote of thanks. The students dispersed from the venue at noon, concluding the field visit.
The students learnt how St. Ann’s Providential Home takes good care of their elderly inmates. They understood that most inmates are living there due to their circumstances and not by choice. The inmates yearn for companionship, they might be old but are young at heart. Their stories and life experiences taught the students a lot about the reality of life.
