Students of II BA UG Department Criminology had an academic visit to the District Prison on 23rd March 2023, Thursday, at around 12:00 pm. Mr. B T Obaleshappa, Superintendent of District Prison, Mangaluru warmly welcomed the students. Before entering the prison the students were checked for security purposes and to make students understand the security system inside the prison. During the visit he explained to the students about the structure and functions of Prison and also explained to them the hierarchy of the prisons, number of prisons in India and also about the present number of prison officials in the district prison .He then briefed the students about the administration and the working of the District prison. The students were informed about the infrastructure and number of inmates.

He is also informed that there are two police organizations working in the prison that are prison officials who manage the prison and the other is Karnataka state industrial security officials who provide security to the prison. Students gained a broader insight into the working of prisons through his explanation about the facilities available to them such as library, video call services, interviews, recreational activities, counselling facilities for inmates, celebrations of different facilities irrespective of religion. Besides this, the students were educated about the rights and life of inmates inside the prison. He concluded the session by answering all of the students' queries.
