Twenty five students of criminology participated in Awareness Programme on The Recent Amendments to the MV Act And Rules organised by the Mangaluru City Police, in Association with The District Legal Services Authority and The Mangaluru Advocates Association at The School Of Social Work-Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru on Monday, 17 July 2023.
In his speech, Commissioner Shri. Kuldeep Kumar R Jain stated that the four city traffic police stations in the City will soon hold separate awareness seminars on the most recent changes to the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act and Rules. Such knowledge of the most recent changes will aid in enhancing the traffic police's ability to provide services. Smt.B.G. Shobha, a senior civil judge who is also the member-secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, recommended individuals to visit the Court if they have any questions or are having trouble resolving their disputes. On the dais were, among others, DCP (Crime & Traffic)Shri. Dinesh Kumar, ACP (Traffic) Smt. Geetha Kulkarni, and Ms. Veena Sequeira, president of the School of Social Work's Institute of Social Service.
Shri. K.S.N. Adiga, a well-known senior attorney in the city, was the resource person for the session. He said, "The fifth amendment to the MV Act and Rules came into effect on April 1, 2022. Among the significant changes is a directive to insurance firms to name an officer to settle accident-related claims within 10 days of receiving information about the incident. The officer must submit a settlement offer to the claimants before the Claims Tribunal within 30 days.
He said, "Among other changes is an increase in compensation in case of death or grave harm in a hit-and-run accident, respectively. Additionally, it requires that accident victims receive cashless care within the first "golden hour" following the accident. The claimants of compensation are now entitled to compensation of Rs 5 lakh in case of death and Rs 2.5 lakh in case of grievous injury in an accident and they need not prove the fault they need not prove the fault of the driver.
Ms Sarik Ankitha, a professor in the Criminology dept at Roshni Nilaya was in charge of the arrangements. ACP (Traffic) Smt. Geetha Kulkarni briefed about the awareness programme.Shri.
