On 29th May 2023 as part of a study tour students of Criminology got an opportunity to visit the INS Hansa, which is Indian Naval Air Station located near Dabolim in Goa, India's largest naval airbase. Students had the privilege to visit the Air Traffic Controller which is generally in charge of the safety of the aircraft. They are the ones that manage the flow of traffic in airspace and direct the pilots during take-off and landing. They also visited the Naval Airfield Integrated Security System (NAISS). This multi-layered security system could detect threats based on numerous possibilities, from underground movements to heat waves. Other key attractions were a bulletproof truck that provided maximum security to protect the data, and the visit to the long-range maritime reconnaissance area, primarily used for rescue, patrol, and photography. Students had the opportunity to enter the INAS 316 Condors. It has been christened ‘Condors’ after one of the largest flying land birds with a massive wingspan. It is a multi-role Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Anti-Submarine Warfare (LRMR ASW) aircraft, that can be equipped with a range of air-to-ship missiles and torpedoes. Students also witnessed fighter jets in the air and their take off. Overall, it was a rejuvenating experience for the students.
