The Annual Special Camp for 2024-2025, organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) of the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, was scheduled from December 8, 2024, to December 14, 2024, at Amruth Lalji Higher Primary School, Kelrai Pedamale, D.K. The camp was be led by Programme Officer Asst. Prof. Obanath and Programme Officers Asst. Prof. Ms. Colin D'Souza, and Mrs. Deepika Sanil under the theme: "Youth for My Bharat - Youth for Digital Literacy." A total of 50 NSS volunteers participated in the annual camp

DAY 1 - December 8, 2024

On December 8, 2024, a group of eager NSS volunteers began their journey from the college Campus at 1:00 PM. Dr. Sophia N. Fernandes, Principal, addressed the volunteers, wishing them success before they departed for the camp site. The group arrived at the camp location by 1:45 PM.

Upon arrival, the NSS officers held a meeting to organize the volunteers into five teams: Thungabhadra, Narmada, Kaveri, Nethravathi, and Godavari. This strategic division aimed to enhance teamwork and efficiency throughout the camp activities. Afterward, all volunteers participated in a campus cleaning. Following the cleaning, an inauguration ceremony took place, attended by Mr. Jeeth Milan Roach, an environmentalist from Mangalore, and several esteemed guests, including Sri Sridhar Chikkabettu (President, Nirumargha Gram Panchayat), Mr. Michael Anthony (Gram Panchayat Member, Bondanthila), Mrs. Shashikumari (Gram Panchayat Member, Bondanthila), and Mrs. Surekha (Gram Panchayat Member, Bondanthila). The official commencement set the tone for a fulfilling and successful camp.

After the inauguration, volunteers enjoyed a tea break before embarking on a village visit at 5:30 PM. At 7:00 PM, a cultural program featuring the talents of the NSS volunteers was held, with volunteers preparing for tomorrow's cultural program. The evening concluded with a communal dinner at 8:00 PM, followed by an evaluation session from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM, allowing volunteers to reflect on the day's events.

DAY 2 - December 9, 2024

The volunteers began the day at 5:00 AM, participating in morning rituals such as prayer, yoga, and exercise, led by Team Nethravathi. The flag-hoisting ceremony took place at 7:00 AM, with Mrs. Ancilla (Chief Librarian, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore) attending. Then, the volunteers engaged in Shramadan (a cleaning initiative organized by Team Thungabhadra). After lunch, Team Nethravathi conducted an educational session, with Dr. Lavina Noronha from Ave Maria Palliative Care Centre, Wamanjur. The topic of discussion was Suicide Prevention.

A tea break was observed at 4:00 PM, followed by recreational activities at 4:30 PM. The evening's cultural program took place from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, with Mrs. Ramya B (Professor, PG Department, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore) as the guest of honor. The program showcased the volunteers' diverse talents. After dinner, the day concluded with an evaluation session from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

DAY 3 - December 10, 2024

The day began with personal care at 5:00 AM, followed by prayer, meditation, yoga, and exercise from 6:00 to 7:00 AM. The flag-hoisting ceremony at 7:00 AM was attended by the chief guest Asst.Professor Mrs.Ramya MSW dept. School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore

Volunteers participated in Shramadan from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM, after which a session focusing on life skills was conducted by Shri Yogish Mallige Madu from Samvadha Youth Resource Centre, Mangalore. The day continued with a tea break, followed by a cultural program from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The Chief Guest for the program was Fr. Silvester D'Costa from Kelrai Church.

The day ended with an evaluation session from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

DAY 4 - December 11, 2024

The fourth day began with the usual morning routine of prayer, yoga, and exercise. The flag-hoisting ceremony at 7:00 AM was graced by Ms.Susheela Sequeira,Assistant Superior, Fathima Convent Kelarai.

The volunteers participated in Shramadan after breakfast. In the afternoon, an educational program on "Mental Health - Stress and Management" was conducted by Dr. Gladys Coloso (Professor, Department of Social Work, Yenepoya University). The day continued with a tea break. After the tea break, the campsite was visited by Dr. Sheshappa, the NSS Coordinator of Mangalore University, for an inspection. The volunteers received commendations from both the school teachers and the camp cook, highlighting their hard work and dedication. Dr. Sheshappa expressed her satisfaction with the volunteers' performance and encouraged them to remain actively involved in future NSS initiatives. The day continued with a cultural program from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, with Chief Guest Ms.Cicilia Crasta,Science Teacher,Aided Lourdes High School Bejai. After dinner, the day concluded with an evaluation session.

DAY 5 - December 12, 2024

The volunteers began the day with their usual morning routine of freshening up, prayer, meditation, yoga, and exercise. At 7:00 AM, the flag-hoisting ceremony was attended by Mrs. Celin D'Mello (Secretary of Kelrai Church Management Committee).

The morning session focused on Shramadan. In the afternoon, an educational program on "Leadership and Youth" was conducted by Mrs. Carel Pereira (Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, St. Aloysius College, Mangalore). After a tea break, volunteers participated in preparations for the evening’s cultural program. The program was attended by Pelliks D'Costa and Shri Santosh D'Costa (Deputy Executive Director). After dinner, the day concluded with an evaluation session from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

DAY 6 - December 13, 2024

The day began with the usual morning routine. The flag-hoisting ceremony at 7:00 AM was attended by Fr.Sylvester Dcosta (Priest,St.Anna Church Kelarai). After breakfast, volunteers participated in Shramadan.

Later, an educational program on "Task Management and Leadership Skills" was conducted by Mr. Santosh Dcosta, Vice President, Kelrai Church.

In the evening, the Shibira Jyothi ceremony symbolized the transfer of wisdom from the older generation to the youth. Volunteers arranged lamps around a map of India as national integration songs played in the background. Chief guests for the ceremony included Rohith Poojari (Member of Bondanthila Gram Panchayat),Vikesh B.C.Road, and Roopesh (President of ICYM Kelarai).

The day concluded with an evaluation session from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

DAY 7 - December 14, 2024

The final day of the NSS Annual Special Camp began with a reflection on the week’s experiences, followed by the valedictory program at 10:00 AM. Esteemed guests included Padma Shri Harekala Hajabba (Padma Shri Awardee), Fr. Sylvester D'Costa (Priest,St.Anna Church Kelarai) Shri Sridhar Chikkabettu (President, Nirmarga Gram Panchayat), Ms.Susheela Sequeira,Assistant Superior, Fathima Convent Kelarai.and Mr. Santosh D'Costa (Vice President, Church Palana Parishad, Kelrai).

Chief guests congratulated the volunteers. NSS leader Suraksha R. delivered the closing address. Volunteers were also recognized for their contribution to local educational institutions.

The camp concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, allowing volunteers to reflect on the bonds they had forged and the meaningful experiences they shared.Evening volunteers bid farewell to the camp, carrying with them memories of growth, service, and camaraderie.

The successful completion of the 7 days NSS Annual camp was made possible through the dedicated guidance and support of NSS Programm Officer Asst. Prof. Mr. Obanath and Assistant NSS Officers Ms. Colin D'Souza and Mrs. Deepika Sanil, and the leadership of the NSS team, including NSS leaders Suraksha R II BSW and Navaneeth KT II BSW. Their commitment and effort ensured the smooth running of the entire camp, and we are grateful for their valuable contributions.

During our NSS camp, we conducted various activities, including site cleaning and other community services. The people of the area, along with the Church Priest, committee members of the Church, and the members of the Gram Panchayat, appreciated our efforts and expressed their gratitude for the work we did.
