The team from School of Social Work won the Over All Championship at SILHOUETTE 2014.

OBJECTIVES : 1. To transude thoughts and knowledge base and the development of one’s potential.2. To encourage interaction among Psychology students from various Colleges.

 

DESCRIPTIVE REPORT: Ten  students  of  Psychology  namely  Mariam  Shafeena  Sapna Ramasubramaniam, Naura Fathima, Kirthi, Adline, Eshana Kaverappa, AthenaAranha,  S.  Chandana,  Anupama  Hosur  and  Mohammed  Yousaf  Swaroopparticipated in SILHOUETTE 2014 – An Intercollegiate Psychology Fest on13 th March 2014 organized by the Department of Psychology, St. Agnes Centrefor Post Graduate Studies and Research, Mangalore.

 

SILHOUETTE 2014 was inaugurated by Clinical Psychologist Mrs Meera Rao.A clinical psychologist should be true to their profession. It is always better todo  a  complete  course  on  Psychology  than  treat  a  patient  with  half  bakedknowledge.  Referring  to  the  ways  in  which  measuring  the  psychologicalabilities  often  tend  to  become  inappropriate,  she  said  that  IQ  is  normallymeasured  using  a  test,  while  several  factors  that  contribute  to  IQ  likebackground of the person, habits, location etc are not given priority. She mentioned that  clinical  psychologists  should not  restrict  things to  watertight  compartments  but  view  the  disorder  from  several  perspectives.  Sheinsisted the budding psychologists to be clear about who needs therapy. Quiteoften, it is not just the patient who is therapy, but his/her parents too require the same. Half of the problems will be solved if parents change their attitude, saidshe. She stressed on the parents’ responsibility in treating a mentally challengedchild. One should avoid need multiple counselling as it will only result in addedproblems, she noted. Six events- treasure hunt, guessing the personality, face painting on the theme –Psychological  effects  of  rape,  fantasy  theory  (non  existent  theory),  surpriseevent and switch over were conducted. The surprise event involved presentingin prose or poetry the topic – A man is whole only along with his shadow.

OUTCOME:• Mariam Shafeena & Sapna Ramasubramaniam: Second place in Fantasy  Theory titled  ‘HERO  ZERO  THEORY  OF OBEDIENCE’.

• Athena Aranha  &  S. Chandana : Second place in Face Painting.

• Naura Fathima a & Kirthi : Second place in Guess the Personality.The team won the Over All Championship at SILHOUETTE 2014.
