On Wednesday, 21st August 2024, twenty-seven final year students of Psychology had the privilege of having Ms. Yamini Gowda PC, a former faculty in the Psychology Department of the college for a guest lecture from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm in the Psychology class room. With a teaching experience collectively spanning five years at School of Social Work, Mangaluru, CMR University, Sampurna Montfort College and Academy for Creative Teaching (ACT), Bengaluru, Ms. Yamini shared her expertise and offered valuable guidance on future career and educational opportunities in the field of Psychology.

Miss Yamini emphasized the importance of building and strengthening skills through internships, shadowing therapists, and understanding real-life applications of the syllabus to gain clarity on one's calling in the field. She highlighted the option to work in the corporate sector, well-being centers, and research centers, where individuals can collaborate with colleagues from diverse scientific backgrounds united by a common motive.

She identified three essential aspects of a true psychology representative: ethics, personal therapy, and referral connections. She stressed the significance of confidentiality and non-bias in maintaining ethical standards. Miss Yamini recommended regular personal therapy to prevent burnout, manage empathy and countertransference, and address unsettling memories and emotions that may arise during sessions. She also underscored the importance of building a network of psychologists, psychiatrists, and other professionals for effective referrals and collaboration.
