In order to provide practical exposure of Counseling skills and techniques, the department of Short term courses in association with internal quality assurance cell and department of counseling, School of social work Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru organized a National Level workshop held on 11th and 12th April 2022.
The session was facilitated by Dr Sandra Lobo on the topic Aggression among children ; Parenting tips, on 11th April from 9:30 am to 12:30pm. She spoke about causes of anger/aggression , techniques to manage anger and various tips on parenting . Participants said that they learnt how to act constructively rather than showing a destructive behaviour , the techniques to reduce the intensity of anger and to deal with adolescent clients with agression.
Session 2 was facilitated by Mr. B S Mahesh, a well known Psychologist and Assistant Professor at KMC. The session began at 1:30 pm. He spoke about Distress tolerance skills – “For surviving the emotional crisis.’’He gave insight about the skills to cope with the emotional crisis ,people face on a daily basis. He also talked about self soothing tips and techniques to cope with emotional distress. Participants said that they learnt how to cope with emotional crisis they encounter in their day to day life with self soothing and relaxation techniques.They said they learnt how to deal with clients who are experiencing emotional distress.
On 12th of April Ms. Vimarsha Jain practising counselling Psychologist and Certified Professional Supervisor, Conducted asession on the topic Exploration tools in therapy. Ms. Vimarsha conducted the session keeping in mind the expectation of the students and participants. The workshop was from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, which allowed participants to look into a variety of projective techniques, actively involving all the participants. The therapeutic techniques were administered on individuals as well as in groups allowing them to build rapport with each other.
40 participants – PGDC students, M.Sc. Counselling and B.A students, attended this workshop.In the feedback session participants mentioned that they enjoyed the session and takeaway was they got the practical knowledge and through this session participants were able to engage themselves in self exploration
At the end of the session as a token of gratitude flower pot was handed over to the resource persons by Prof. Eveleen Benis course director. Short term special courses. School of social work.Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru.
