The Youth Red Cross Unit, National Service Scheme Unit and Women’s Cell of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya organized one day Workshop on the topic “Self Defense for Women” for UG and PG female students on November 05, 2022 at 9:30am to 4:30pm in the College Auditorium. The Teaching, Non-Teaching and Supportive Staffs also participated in this training. A total of 218 participated in the event. The inaugural programme started with Prayer by Ms. Nisi Jose Varghese, NSS Volunteer. Mrs. Anusuya Kamath, YRC Programme Officer welcomed the gathering. The Keynote address of the programme was given by Prof. Vineetha K, Registrar (Evaluation), School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya. The Chief Guest of the Programme was CA Shantharam Shetty, Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, D. K District, he said that it is necessary for all girls to learn Self Defense Training and he also expressed that in any situation girls and women should have the courage to face the unexpected discomfort. Mrs Veena B. K, Assistant NSS Programme Officer introduced the Resource Persons of the day, Mr Karthik S Kateel, Founder, Swaraksha for Women Trust (R), Kateel, Mangalore, D. K. District along with his mother Smt. Shobhalatha. The Resource persons demonstrated the Self defense techniques with examples of the realistic situation and taught simple techniques to students which is effective to use during the time of attack. Mr. Obanath, NSS Programme Officer graced the occasion with his presence. Prof. Eveleen Benis, Secretary, Institute of Social Service gave Presidential Address. Ms. Shobha D’Souza, Coordinator Women’s Cell delivered the Vote of thanks.
