On the occasion of National Sports Day, IQAC, Department of Physical Education and SC/ST Cell, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, organised “Celebration of National Sports Day and Inauguration of Yoga Fitness Centre and Zumba Certificate Course” on 29th August 2022 at 10 am in the college auditorium.
The programme began with a short introduction of Major Dhyan Chand, India’s Hockey Legend, as National Sports Day is observed to pay tribute to him on his birth anniversary.

Nisi of II BSW, led all into prayer.Following which, Amanda Frank of III BA welcomed the gathering.
The programme was presided over by Dr Juliet CJ, Principal, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya. The inaugurator for the programme was Dr. Flossy Rayappan, Retd. Associate Professor, School of Social work, Roshni Nilaya. The chief guests were Mr Kushalappa Gowda, Yoga Therapist at Avishkar Yoga Centre, Pumpwell; and Ms Usha Bangera, Zumba and Fitness Instructor, Zuese Fitness Centre. Prof. EveleenBenis, Secretary of Institute of Social Service was present as the guest of honour. Sri Sandeep Ullal, Convener and Assistant professor, Dept. of Physical Education and Associate Professor Ceclia F. Goveas. IQAC coordinators were present on the dais.
The inauguration was done by lighting the lamp and unveiling a poster of yogasana. Dr Flossy Rayappan spoke onhow to maintain health, health problems faced by youngsters and prevention of health issues by light exercises.
Mr Kushalappa Gowda enlightened the audience on the importance of Yoga and the significance of pranayama.
Ms Usha Bangera addressed the trends of Zumba and how to do fitness in different ways like dance.
Shravya Naik of III BA, spoke about Yoga and its significance. A short video on the life of Major Dhyan Chand was screened.
Flavia Furtado of III BA proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme was compered by Ifra Ayesha of II BA.
Eighty students participated in the Zumba session
The programme ended with a lively Zumba session for all the participants.
