The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science (CFS) and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, in collaboration with TConnects, Getjobs and Skills in Security and Investigations, Virtual Protect Security Pvt. Ltd & Covert Security India Consulting Services LLP, Bengaluru, organized CRIFO 2K25, an International Summit on the theme, Forensic Spectrum: An Intersection of Technology and Crime Investigation held on February 28th and March 1st, 2025 in the college campus.

The inaugural ceremony began with the prayer song led by the college choir followed by a welcome dance performed by Ms. Aparna Shetty and Ms. Adheena M of second year MSc CFS.

Dr. Saritha D’Souza, Head, MSc CFS and IQAC Coordinator cum Program Coordinator of CRIFO 2K25, gave the Introduction note outlining the goal of the event. She emphasized how the two-day program improves students' abilities and gives them more in-depth understanding about Forensic Science and Criminology, which would benefit them in the future. She expressed that CRIFO 2K25 is special since there are informative sessions, paper presentations, and events. On this occasion, the Institution is signing a Memorandum of Understanding between Virtual Protect Security Pvt. Ltd, Bengaluru for Academic pursuit.

The Chief Guest Sri. Yatish N, Superintendent of Police Dakshina Kannada District Police, inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp followed by formal release of CRIFO 2K25 logo and unveiled the prestigious trophies that symbolize triumph, knowledge, and excellence. Guest of honor, Mr. Maj. Saurabh Srivastava, Director Clean Play Consulting Services Bengaluru, President, Assoc. Prof. Cecilia F Goveas, Registrar (Controller of Examinations) School of Social Work, Mangaluru, Mr. Sai Krishna Domala, Managing Director TConnects: A Risk Management Job Portal Virtual Protect Security Private Limited, Dr. Saritha D’Souza, Head, MSc CFS and IQAC Coordinator and Ms. Vedhaashini S. Gowda, president cum Student Coordinator of program were present on the dais.

Sri. Yatish N, IPS addressed that the Locard’s principle is a key component of forensic scientists' research. Crimes like robbery, theft, and dacoity would occur in less developed and digitalized societies, but as technology and digitalization advanced, so would the types of crimes. In order to solve crimes and keep the peace, he said, it is crucial that investigators change as well. He stressed about the job opportunities in Police Department as Scene of Crime Officers for the Forensic Aspirants.

Guest of Honor, Maj. Saurabh Srivastava, Director of Clean Play Consulting Services, Bengaluru stated that “winning is an aspiration and you are here to learn”. He inspired the delegates to make use of the wonderful opportunity.

The programme collaborator, Mr. Sai Krishna Domala, Managing Director, TConnects: A Risk Management Job Portal Virtual Protect Security Private Limited appreciated Dr. Saritha Dsouza for providing an opportunity to be a part of the event. Further, he briefed about the achievement of Major Saurav Srivastava in the field of Security and Vigilance. Major Saurav Srivastava was felicitated by the dignitaries for his unwavering support and contribution in the field of Security and Risk management.

Mr. Sai Krishna Domala, Managing Director of Virtual Protect Security, Private Limited and on behalf of School of Social Work, Mangaluru, Assoc Prof. Cecilia F Goveas, Controller of Examinations along with Dr Saritha D’Souza, Head of MSc CFS, School of Social Work officially exchanged the memorandum of understanding to bridge between the academic institutions and corporate sectors.

The Presiding Officer Assoc Prof. Cecilia F Goveas, Controller of Examinations of the institution expressed the critical role of the technology in the field of crime and student’s responsibilities in the domain of preventing and combating crime. Around 150 delegates were part of this event.

Assistant Professors of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science Ms. Nashwa Iqbal, formally welcomed the gathering and Mr. Roshan D'Souza, delivered the vote of thanks. Ms. Vedhaashini S. The resource person for the first scientific session was Dr. Ananth Prabhu G. Professor in Computer Engineering, Cyber Security and Cyber Law Trainer spoke on the theme AI and Digital Forensics: A New Frontier in Cyber Crime Investigation stressing on the use of GPS in tracking and faking the location by means of technology. He explained about various apps and websites to understand the personal privacy through a demo and shared the live cases that he handled. Further, he spoke about the different types of digital tools that is used in the crime investigation.

The second Scientific session was held on the topic “Mastering Research and Grants: A Roadmap to Publication and Funding Success by Dr. Vajagathali Mohammed, Post-Doctoral Scientist, Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Stockholm University, Sweden. He highlighted about the advancement of research in Fingerprint, digital Forensics, DNA Profiling, Crime Investigation report, Criminal Profiling, Forensic Psychology, Questioned Document Examination and Forensic Ballistics. He also spoke about sponsorships, grants and funding’s provided by various sectors promoting research globally.  

The sessions were then followed by paper presentation. The Panel -1 of paper presentation on the theme Criminology and Forensic Psychology was chaired by Dr. Kiran Prasad, Head, UG Department of Sociaology and Ms. Nayana B R, Assistant Professor, St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru. The Panel-2 of Paper Presentation on the theme Forensic Science chaired by Dr. Swathi D, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Department of Forensic Science, Srinivas University, Mukka and Mr. Roshan D'Souza, Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science. Altogether, 17 delegates presented their research papers on various sub-themes of the summit. Simultaneously the treasure hunt event took place with a total of 5 teams in a final round.  The quiz prelims took place with a total of 13 teams. Concurrently Stress interview event took place with a total of 15 participants.

The third session was held on the topic “An overview of criminal law: BNS and emerging legal trends” by Ms. Ashwini D’Souza, Advocate, BA, LLB, MSc. Psychology. She spoke about the purpose of living in a society and the preamble of constitution. She highlighted on the new law, BNS and BNSS and about certain sections including community service punishments and organized crime punishment. She also emphasized on offenses related to women and children’s, ignorance of law and about the Indian legislature.

Day 1 concluded with a cultural showcase, featuring traditional dance performances and skits that creatively illustrated the intersections of crime and Forensic Science by the students and faculties of the hosting department. Ms. Nicole Mendonca and Ms. Priyanka M. K, students of second MSc CFS compered the whole event. The first day of International Convention concluded successfully at 7.30pm.   

Day-2 started with the quiz finals with 5 teams and Ms. Gayathri K S, Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science was the quiz master.

The fourth scientific session was held on the topic “Empowering Organizations with Smart Resource & Skill Ecosystems” and “Transforming Fleet Security Through Intelligent Risk Management” by Mr. Sai Krishna Domala, Managing Director of Virtual Protect Security, Private Limited and Mr. Thejas Abhishek, Team lead Security Operations, Virtual protect security. Mr. Sai Krishna introduced "Risk Jobs Portal," a platform for student skill development and corporate job placement, focusing on security. Services include training, internships, and resume building. Mr. Thejas Abishek presented a vehicle tracking and monitoring system with features like GPS, geo-fencing, and emergency response, demonstrating its risk prevention capabilities. The stress interview.

The stress interview finals was the last event held before the valedictory ceremony with 5 participants. Mr. Arjun Prakash, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce at St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru. and Mr. Niketh PS, Assistant Professor cum faculty convener of CRIFO 2K25 were the panelist.

During the valedictory ceremony of the International Summit ‘CRIFO 2K25’, the chief guest Assoc. Prof. Vineetha K., Former Registrar (Evaluation) and Head, UG Department of "Social Work," School of Social Work, Mangaluru emphasized the importance of the conference in expanding forensic expertise within the legal system and thanked the organizing team for the successful implementation of the international agreement. She thanked the delegates and guests in attendance. She also discussed the aspirations and future ambitions that every student should hold dear during their academic journey. She also commended the entire MSC CFS team, under the direction of Dr. Saritha D'Souza, for their hard work in planning this successful event. 

In her speech, the presiding officer, Dr. Jacinta D'Souza, Former Principal of School of Social Work, thanked the guests of honor for their accomplishments, the event's collaborators, and the significance of the sessions held for future generations. She also thanked the organizing committee, speakers, attendees, and delegates who helped to make the event a success. She also congratulated all of the participants on their award wins and shared the achievements of Late Dr. Ashoka B., the former head of MSc CFS for his contribution in collaboration with the police fraternity.

Ltd,  Bengaluru and Student coordinator Ms. Feba Shamma R,  Organizing secretary Mr. Roshan D’Souza,  Organizing Joint Secretary Ms. Nashwa Iqbal,  teaching and non-teaching staffs, students of the institution, students and faculties from other institutions in and around the states were also present on this occasion.

Mr. Niketh P S, Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science felicitated the prize distribution ceremony. The SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, Mysuru has bagged the overall championship and the event concluded with a short video showcasing the glimpse of the two-days event.

Assistant Professor Gayathri K S, Faculty coordinator ‘CRIFO 2K25’ welcomed the gathering. Student coordinator Ms. Vedhaashini S Gowda, compered the whole event. Dr. Saritha D’Souza, Program Coordinator CRIFO 2K25 delivered the vote of thanks. Ms. Adheena second year student of MSc CFS cum department media coordinator compiled the report.
