The Forum for Sustainable Development, Post Graduate Department of Social Work, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a webinar on "National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and its Relevance in the Current Scenario" on April 9, 2025 at 2 pm. The session was led by Dr. P. Selvaraj, Chief General Manager (Retd.), NABARD, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. A total of 15 students from the Community Development specialization and 3 undergraduate students of Rural Development actively participated in the webinar.

During the session, the resource person provided a foundational understanding of the Indian banking structure, emphasizing the distinctions between commercial banks, cooperative banks, and development banks. He elaborated on NABARD’s critical role in supporting rural infrastructure, agricultural development, and financial inclusion through its refinance and developmental programs. Dr. Selvaraj also shed light on NABARD’s contributions toward Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and rural entrepreneurship.

Furthermore, he offered valuable insights into career opportunities within NABARD and similar financial institutions, highlighting the significance of competitive exams such as NABARD Grade A and B, RBI Grade B, and IBPS-Agriculture Field Officer. He explained the eligibility criteria, exam patterns, preparation strategies, and the importance of aligning academic pursuits with emerging rural development needs.
