A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru and Roshni Nilaya Alumni Association, Bangalore Chapter and Roshni Nilaya Alumni Association, Mangaluru to establish a Centre for Leadership and Social Development in memory of Dr. Olinda Pereira, the Founder Principal of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya.
The major objectives of the Centre engaged are:
1. To foster the initiatives which bring-forth and keep alive the ideals practised and cherished by Dr. Olinda Pereira - “Love is made fruitful in service”.
2. To encourage and develop value based Leadership.
3. To encourage and under-take action-oriented Social Research and Publications as well as Social Development programmes.
4. To undertake certain activities that she believed in that is, Gender Diversity and Empowerment like helping the Poor, being the voice of the voiceless, empowering women, taking care of the elderly and other areas which she had focused on. The Trust can design and execute initiatives in these areas.
The Roshni Alumni Association, Bangalore Chapter represented by signatories, namely, Sriyuths S N Gopinath ( MSW 1974-1976 batch), Bhima Rao ( MSW 1976 -1978 batch ) Ravichandra Bekal ( MSW 1978-1980)Vasanth Kumar Kamila (MSW 1988 -1990 batch), The Roshni Alumni Association, Mangalore, represented by signatories namely Mr. Dheeraj Shetty, President Roshni Alumni Association, Mangaluru (MSW 1996-1998 batch) and School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru represented by signatories Ms. Pholomena Dsa, Provincial, Daughters of the Heart of Mary – India Province South,
( MSW 1974-1976 batch), Ms. Vida Sequira President, Institute of Social Service and Dr. Juliet C.J. Principal, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya. Dr. P. Jenis Mary, Vice Principal School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya were the witnesses.
During the procedure of signing the MOU Ms. Philomena D’sa, highlighted on the simplicity of the great woman, Dr. Olinda Pereira, a Doctor in Clinical Psychology, Founder Principal, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya and founder of Vishwas Trust ( Care for the Elderly).
Mr. Ravichandra Bekal emphasized on the human and professional qualities of Dr. Olinda Pereira as a woman of vision and Mission and a Principal who made a difference in the lives of the student community and those around her.
Mr. Dheeraj Shetty spoke about the emotional bonding that prevails at Roshni Nilaya, a rare factor to be found in institutions and the way paved by Dr. Olinda in building up the Institution. Dr. Jenis Mary proposed the vote of thanks.
