Annual Sports day

Mangaluru, February 15, 2025 – The School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, organized its much-anticipated Annual Sports Meet 2025, held at the spacious Bharath Municipality Ground, Nandigudda. The event was marked by high energy, competitive spirit, and an overwhelming participation from students and faculty members.

The day commenced at 7:30 AM with the thrilling 3000-meter race for men and the 1500-meter race for women, setting the tone for an action-packed day. At 8:30 AM, students showcased their discipline and unity in the grand march past, moving in perfect synchrony to the beats of the college band.

The inaugural ceremony, held at 9:00 AM, was graced by the esteemed chief guest, Dr. Jayaprakash, Principal of Shree Gokarnanatheshwara College, Mangalore. Other dignitaries present included Dr. Sebastin K.V, Dean of Research & Associate Professor, Dept. of MSW, and Dr. Rosa Nimmy Mathew, IQAC Co-coordinator & HOD, Dept. of MSc Counselling. The event was presided over by Dr. Sandra S. Lobo, Professor, Dept. of Psychology & Dean of UG, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya.

Following a warm welcome by Mr. Maclin Lobo, Sports Secretary, and an introduction of the chief guest by Mr. Joyal D’Souza, Dr. Jayaprakash delivered an inspiring speech on sportsmanship and officially declared the Annual Athletic Meet 2025 open. Dr. Sandra S. Lobo further encouraged students with her presidential address.

The competition saw enthusiastic participation in a variety of track and field events, including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m races, and 4x100m and 4x100m mixed relay races. The field events featured shot put and discus throw, open to both students and faculty members. The highlight of the day was the intense relay races, which brought out the best of teamwork and sportsmanship among the teams.

Teachers also took part in select track and field events, adding to the excitement and camaraderie. The event culminated with a prize distribution ceremony, honoring the winners for their outstanding performances.

The valedictory ceremony commenced at 1:30 PM, with Sri Premnath Ullal, Rajyotsava Awardee & International Kabaddi Referee, gracing the occasion as the chief guest. Dr. Kiran Prasad, Dean of Administration & HOD, Dept. of Sociology, and Assoc. Prof. Cecilia F. Goveas, Controller of Examination, were also present.

The most awaited moment of the day was the announcement of the winners. The individual champions in the men’s section were Mr. Maclin Lobo from Roshni United and Mr. Santhiya Vijol from Roshni Titans. In the women’s section, Ms. Harshitha A from Roshni United and Ms. Chaitra Shetty from Roshni Royals took top honors. The overall championship title was claimed by Roshni United, with Roshni Titans as the runners-up and Roshni Royals securing the third place.

The event concluded with the lowering of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem, marking the end of a day filled with exhilarating performances, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Annual Sports Meet 2025 was a resounding success, leaving behind cherished memories for all participants and spectators.
