Inter Collegiate Events

Mangaluru, October 28, 2024 – The Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Karate Championship 2024 for Men and Women was successfully inaugurated at the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya. The grand opening ceremony was graced by Sri. Ivan D’souza, Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, as the chief guest, alongside other dignitaries including Dr. Kishore Kumar CK, Director & Chairman, Dept of Physical Education, Mangalore University, Sri. Premanth Ullal, an International Kabaddi Referee and Rajyotsava Awardee, and Dr. Sandra Sunitha Lobo, Professor & Head, Dept of Psychology, S.S.W Roshni Nilaya.

The event commenced with a prayer followed by a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. The welcome address was delivered by a student representative from Roshni Nilaya, while Mr. Sandeep Ullal, Convener and Director of Physical Education at Roshni Nilaya, formally welcomed the guests. Sri. Ivan D’souza, in his address, emphasized the importance of perseverance and dedication in sports. He encouraged the participants, stating, “Winning and losing are part of the game, but the true victory lies in the effort and passion you bring to the sport.”

Dr. Kishore Kumar CK, along with Premanath Ullal, also addressed the gathering, stressing the significance of sports in holistic development. Dr. Sandra Sunitha Lobo highlighted the necessity of balancing academics with extracurricular activities for a well-rounded life.
The championship witnessed an overwhelming participation of 52 teams and 212 players, showcasing their skills in various competitive categories. The tournament featured intense and strategic matches, keeping the audience engaged throughout the day.

The Valedictory function was marked by the presence of esteemed guests including Sri. Bharath Kumar, Member of Mangalore City Corporation, Dr. Flossy Rayappan, Former Associate Professor of Physical Education at Roshni Nilaya, Dr. Sebestin K.V, Dean of Research, and Dr. Gerald Santhosh D’Souza, Director of the Department of Physical Education, Mangalore University. The chief guest, Dr. Flossy Rayappan, applauded the efforts of the participants and encouraged them to continue pursuing excellence in sports.

Dr. Gerald Santhosh D’Souza also extended his congratulations to the winners and acknowledged the dedication of the organizing committee in ensuring a successful event. The highlight of the function was the prize distribution ceremony, where the victorious teams were awarded trophies for their outstanding performances.

The event concluded on a high note with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Vandana Shetty and Mr. Sandeep Ullal, appreciating the efforts of all participants, organizers, and spectators. The championship, filled with energy and sportsmanship, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to promoting athletic excellence and teamwork.
