The Post-Graduation Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized a guest lecture on “Law of General Exceptions as in IPC” for first year students of M Sc Criminology and Forensic Science on 13th November 2023 at 9:30am in the PG department of CFS. Mrs. Madhura Shenoy Hegde., alumna of the institution, graduated in LLB and currently runs a Digital Creation Firm. The objective of the session is to have an interactive session on Law of General Exceptions as in Indian Penal Code, to acquire knowledge on the private defense through case laws.
Dr.Saritha D’souza, Head of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science introduced Mrs Madhura Shenoy. Further, Mrs Madhura explained the conceptual meaning of general exceptions in Indian Penal Code and the laws that are related to them which includes the offenses committed are excusable and justifiable by the law and are not punishable, mistakes of facts, judicial acts, accidents, absence of criminal intention, acts done by consent, duress, trifling acts, and the right of private defense. Mrs Madhura explained the laws with reference of real case studies that was easier to understand the concepts.
The session was knowledgeable and interactive, where student expressed their feedback in a positive way, Mrs Madhura made the session very lively where students felt free to approach her and enquire and clear their queries. The session concluded at 2.30pm with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Sharol Steven, student of first MSc CFS. Altogether, 17 students were present during the event.
