The students of 2nd year M.Sc counselling, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, organized a group process session on the topic effective communication for the nursery students of Kottapoara Anganwady, Madikai Ambalathara Panchayath under Kanhangad ICDS, between the age of 3-4 years. The session was organized on 27/04/2022 and 28/04/2022 for the duration of 2 hour per day, 10am to 12.30pm in Kottapoara Anganwady, Kanhangad. The total number of students were 20. The group session was conducted by seven group leaders. The purpose of the group session was to teach children how to effectively communicate with their parents, teachers, and others. The first session began with an introduction of communication featuring their favorite cartoon character, and group leaders taught the group members an action song . The focus of the second and third sessions was to teach them basic words like greeting, thank you, sorry, and please through a role play by the group leaders, as well as to teach them how to express their needs through a puppets in which the leaders acted out various situations involving a child and a parent. The fourth session focused on getting them to communicate using the skills and talents they had learned in the previous three sessions. There were rhymes, songs, and energizers for the kids to keep them motivated throughout each session. The children actively participated in the group session and were able to learn basic communication skills. Cooperation among group leaders greatly helped in the success of the group session.
