School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, together with IQAC and Forum for Human Resource Management organised a guest lecture on July 10th, 2024 at 9.30 am by Dr Ravichandran Nair K, a Selection Grade Lecturer, Department of Public Health, MAHE addressed the second year MSW HR Trainees. The theme of the lecture was “Enhancing Field Work Knowledge”. With over 20 years in teaching and mentoring postgraduate students, Dr. Ravichandran focused the session on enhancing fieldwork knowledge for HR Professionals. The session began with engaging the trainees to understand their thought processes and expectations. This interactive approach set the stage for a comprehensive discussion on key aspects of fieldwork.
Dr.Ravichandran emphasized the importance of maintaining a clear and directed focus during fieldwork to ensure that objectives are met effectively. He highlighted the necessity of hands-on experience, stressing that the practical application of theoretical knowledge in real-world settings is crucial for professional development. Essential competencies such as communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving were identified as vital for successful fieldwork. He stressed the importance of documenting activities. Continuous learning and adaptation from fieldwork experiences were highlighted as critical for improving future performance.
Dr. Ravichandran emphasized the quality and relevance of information gathered during fieldwork, ensuring it meets set objectives. He also discussed the evolving landscape of HR, preparing trainees for future challenges and opportunities and the importance of maintaining a clear and directed focus during fieldwork to ensure that objectives are met effectively. He underlined, stressing the practical application of theoretical knowledge in real-world settings is crucial for professional development. He highlighted that maintaining high standards in all fieldwork activities was deemed essential for ensuring the liability and validity of outcomes. In his session, Dr Ravichandran spoke also on the need for being extraordinary beyond just being ordinary. He highlighted the importance of being knowledgeable about advanced Excel skills and their impact on job seeking. He advised the trainees to be well-informed and prepared for their future roles. Speaking about the future role of HR professionals, he motivated the attendees to seize opportunities and excel. Creating a LinkedIn profile and being prepared to face interviews were highlighted as essential qualities. Dr. Ravichandran also stressed the importance of being informed about the syllabus and study materials for the upcoming academic year to excel better.
The event was conducted in the presence of Dr. Sebastin K V, Head of the Department-HR, whose support highlighted the importance of the session. Attended by 26, IInd MSW HR trainees, the session concluded on a positive and encouraging note, with Dr. Ravichandran emphasizing the significance of continuous mutual learning and professional development.
