Suicide Prevention day is a critical effort aimed at reducing the number of suicides by offering support and intervention to individuals who may be at risk. On the of 10th September 2024 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm , students of MPSW and MSc Counselling of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya in association with IQAC organised a World Suicide Prevention Day Program for 225 Undergraduate, MSc Counselling and MPSW students.
Associate Professor Cecilia Farida Goveas Controller of Examination , Dr. Meena Monteiro Dean of PG studies, Ms. Thani Anwar forum coordinator, Alima Baji Forum President of Holistic Wellbeing Forum and Lenisha Reema Secretary of Family Cosmos Forum were seated on the Dias. Dr. Meena Monteiro addressed on the theme of the program ‘Hope Within Me’ which inspired the students and instilled a sense of hope among them. The ceremony began with the inauguration which highlighted the beautiful message of “Hope within you”. Ms. Akshaya N Bhandary, Assistant Professor MSc Counselling announced the winners of poster making and poetry competition which was held on 9th September 2024.
Students of MPSW gave a sense of hope through their remarkable mime performance which portrayed an individual struggling with internal conflicts, contemplating death. However, the mime encourages seeking help instead of choosing suicide, emphasizing the importance of support in difficult times.
Students of MSc counselling truly inspired the audience with their brilliant performance of dance/drama showcasing the Internal struggles between the negative and positive thoughts in an individual which evoked a sense of will to fight with negative thoughts among the audience.
A documentary was played which showcased the public’s opinion on the topic of suicide prevention. Dr. Lavina Narhona, the Co-founder of a Susheg Suicide Prevention Helpline and Director of a Ave Maria Palliative Care Centre shared her views on the rising statistics of suicide cases over the past years. The documentary ended with the students of MSc Counselling portraying a message on hope. The programme came to a conclusion with Ms. Olvita Dsouza student of MPSW proposing the vote of thanks. Ms.Renisha from II M.Sc Counseling Compered the program.
