The department of Post Graduate studies and research and IQAC organized a two-day Annual Reflection Program on 3rd and 4th of September 2024 for 100 students of MSW, MSc Counselling and MSc Criminology and Forensic Science. The event took place at Maria Paiva Hall, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru. The program aimed to provide valuable insight on personal development and more.

Day 1

On September 3, 2024, a session titled “Cultivating Focus and Resilience through Mindful Practices”, the event was held from 9:30 am to 12:15 pm. It began with a welcome speech by Ms. Anushka K. J, student of Second MSW, followed by a floral welcome for the resource person, Mrs. Mamatha Bandary, Head of Counseling at Canara Institute of Education, Mangaluru, presented by Mrs. Anuradha Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of MSW. The session focused on equipping participants, especially social workers, with mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing, guided visualization, and cognitive restructuring to enhance focus, manage negative emotions, and build resilience. Real-world examples from figures like LeBron James and Oprah Winfrey were shared to highlight the effectiveness of these practices. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Bhumika, student of Second MSW, expressing gratitude to Mrs. Mamatha Bandary and all participants for their active engagement.

The second session conducted on 3rd September 2024 started at 1:30 pm which aimed on providing insight on Mastering professional ethics and etiquettes. The resource person for the session was Fr Ivon D’ Souza, Assistant Director, Pahunch, Porvorim, Goa. The session started with the welcome speech by Ms. Fathima Farasath, second MSc CFS student and the resource person was florally welcomed by Mr. Niketh P S, Assistant Professor, Post graduate dept. of CFS. The session started with a tongue twister game, where students actively participated and enjoyed the same. The session dealt with aspects such as, ethics and its uses and principles in everyday life. After a break at 2:30 pm, the session continued where he talked about professionalism and etiquettes and also gave deeper insight in to the topics with illustrations. The session was informative and students were actively engaged throughout the program.

The program was wrapped up at 4pm with a vote of thanks by Ms. Feba Shamma, Student of Second MSc CFS.

 Day 2

On the second day of the Annual Reflection, the focus shifted to exploring the role of spirituality in daily life as a means to enhance well-being. The session, held on 4th September 2024 at 9:30 PM, was led by Akka B K Ambhika, Raja yoga Teacher in Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, who brought valuable insights from her personal experiences. The session began with the welcome speech by Ms. DS Raksha, Student of first MSc Counselling , followed by florally greeting extended to the resource person by Mrs. Ramya B, Assistant Professor, department of MSW. The session started by sharing stories from her life experiences. The session focused on practicing mindfulness meditation into everyday routine to enhance overall wellbeing. After a break at 10.50 pm, the session continued; Dealing with emotions, influence of emotions in wellbeing and so on were discussed. The facilitator made the participants practice meditation in the session and also gave deeper insight about significance of practicing meditation. The session was informative and students were actively engaged throughout the program.

The session was wrapped up at 12.30 pm with a vote of thanks by Ms. Alima Baji, student of Second MSc Counselling.

Fourth session on September 4, 2024, began at 1.30 pm on "Techniques and Strategies to Manage Emotions" which was led by Mr. Ankith S Kumar, a behavioral scientist and TEDx speaker. The session began with a welcome speech by Ms. Shravya , of Second year MSW followed by a floral welcome by Ms. Akshaya N. Bhandary, Assistant Professor of MSc Counselling. The objective of the session was to provide participants with practical techniques to manage emotions, maintain emotional balance, and develop stress management strategies. Mr. Kumar used interactive activities and personal experiences to emphasize mindfulness, emotional introspection, and the importance of self-awareness. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Bhakthi, expressing gratitude to Mr. Kumar and all participants.
