A webinar on DNA and its importance in forensic science was organised by the UG department of Criminology on May 10th 2021 at 4:30 on Google meet platform. The resource person for this webinar was Mrs. Shreenidhi Bhandary, Assistant professor of the PG Department of Criminology, School Of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore.
She explained how important DNA is in the court of law as it is one of the conclusive evidence along with fingerprints. It is found in every cell of the body except in mature Red Blood Cells because they do not contain a nucleus. DNA is a crucial element in crime scene investigation. Minute mistakes in collecting it can lead to contamination giving inconclusive evidence.
The webinar was extremely informative for students. The speaker explained the topic in detail in the most simplified manner. The webinar covered every aspect of DNA and its importance in forensic science investigation from the structure of a DNA to collecting, packing, storing and examination of the DNA.
