An interactive session with Shri.Srinivas Gowda IPS, superintendent of Police Hassan District on "How to Crack UPSC '' was organised by the Department of Criminology and IQAC,School of Social Work, Mangaluru on 19th June 2021.
Ms.Namratha of II BA comphered the session. Mrs Cecilia F. Goveas,Coordinator of IQAC welcomed the gathering and Ms.Rose Tharakan introduced the Speaker.
Shri. Srinivas Gowda is an IPS officer from the batch of 2016 and is currently the superintendent of police of the Hassan district. Prior to this he was the Assistant commissioner of police in Mangalore.He secured the 105th rank in the all India UPSC Civil service examination and got into the karnataka Cadre.
The guest speaker started the session by explaining the basic pattern of the UPSC exam. He explained to the UPSC aspirants about the three stages of the examination.
Next, the speaker gave some tips on staying motivated, studying, and preparing for the exam. He advised that motivation should come from within as external motivation lasts only for a small period of time. He also suggested that reading the newspaper every day and staying updated on the current events by reading magazines is important. For academic knowledge, reading the NCERT textbooks of all subjects of class 8 to 12 will be sufficient. The exam is more focused on the candidates’ views and their justification more than academic knowledge but being aware of the concepts is important. Having clear awareness about the concept and its importance is more important than knowing facts like where and how. The key to cracking the exam as advised by the speaker is good knowledge, hard work and proper preparation for the exam by practice.
At the end of the session, the students asked queries which the speaker answered clearly.Vote of thanks was delivered by Nikitha Giri of I BA. The session was very informative and students participated with enthusiasm. The speaker was very clear about the information provided and gave students a clear insight on how to crack the UPSC exam.
