Fifteen criminology students toured INS Hansa in Dabolim, Goa on April 30, 2024. As part of an existing memorandum of understanding (MOU) between KMC Manipal and the School of social work, five students of M.Sc. Forensic Science from KMC Manipal also participated in the excursion.

The visit to INS Hansa provided an insightful glimpse into the critical role this naval air station plays in safeguarding India's maritime interests. Located in Goa, INS Hansa has been pivotal since its establishment in 1953, serving as a central hub for naval aviation operations in the Arabian Sea region.

During the visit, students learned about the station's multifaceted functions, including its primary responsibilities in air traffic control and its hosting of advanced fighter jets like the 824-Fightery and Sea Harrier. Additionally, they were briefed on the presence of maritime patrol aircraft such as the P-8I Neptune, equipped with cutting-edge sensors for enhancing maritime domain awareness.

The significance of INS Hansa extends beyond its operational capabilities; it also serves as a crucial training center for naval aviators and aircrew. The station offers a range of courses, from aviation medicine to survival training and operational tactics, ensuring the readiness and expertise of naval aviation personnel.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Moreover, students gained an understanding of INS Hansa's contributions to disaster relief and humanitarian assistance operations. This first-hand experience provided a deeper understanding of naval aviation operations, highlighting the crucial role of ATC in ensuring station safety.
