On the solemn occasion of Martyrs' Day, 30th January 2025, the Mangalore Diocesan Commission for Laity convened a poignant conference titled ‘Gandhi Smriti’ at St. Anthony’s Charitable Institutions, Jeppu. The gathering honored Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy and reflected on the profound relevance of his values in today’s world.

The event commenced with a floral tribute to Gandhi’s portrait, led by Fr. J. B. Crasta, Director of St. Anthony’s Charitable Institutions and Diocesan Secretary of the Commission for Lay Apostolate. Accompanied by esteemed dignitaries, he paid homage to the Father of the Nation, emphasizing the timeless significance of truth, non-violence and justice as foundational principles for humanity.

Throughout the conference, speakers illuminated a poignant reality—while Gandhi’s philosophies may be overlooked within the nation he devoted his life to, they continue to inspire and command profound respect worldwide. The discussions challenged attendees to move beyond mere admiration of his ideals, urging them to integrate these principles into daily actions to nurture a more just and compassionate society.

As the world pauses to remember Gandhi, the message resounds clearly: his teachings are not merely to be revered but to be woven into the fabric of everyday life, shaping a future guided by his unwavering principles.

Ten students of II BSW, II BA and I BA along with Assistant Professor Vineetha Pereira, Head of the Department of English participated in the event.
