The Youth Red Cross Unit and National Service Scheme Unit of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya organized a webinar on the topic “Staying Optimistic during Pandemic” on June 11, 2021 at 2:30pm. The programme was hosted on google meet and was live streamed on YouTube. The resource person of the webinar was Fr. Dr. G Augustine Lourdu, Dean, School of Social Work, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Bengaluru. The Keynote address was given by Dr. Jenis Mary, Vice principal, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya. The event was organised by Mrs. Anusuya Shenoy, YRC Programme Officer, Mr Obanath, NSS Programme Officer and Mrs Veena B. K, Assistant NSS Programme Officer. Ms. Fathima Samreen, YRC Volunteer was MC of the programme. The programme started with prayer song by Ms. Bhakthi Rao, NSS volunteer, followed by welcome address given by Ms. Priskilla Thomas, NSS Volunteer and introducing the resource person was done by Ms. Sinchana Shetty, NSS Volunteer.
The resource person Fr. Dr. G Augustine Lourdu started the session by talking about how one can stay optimistic. He spoke about positive and negative imagination and how each can lead to different possibilities. He then continued to narrate stories to convey his message, he quoted "to be optimistic is to build a positive imagination". He explained about the tough times during this lockdown and this devastating pandemic and to have positive imaginations and choosing happiness to stay motivated and secure is important. He also spoke about the importance of having a strong belief and self confidence to face life challenges. The resource person ended the session by saying “Change Your Thought and Change Your Destiny”. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Haseena, YRC Volunteer. The virtual meet ended at around 3:45pm leaving all participants impressed as well as throwing light on the essentiality of optimism.
