A total of 50 students of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, 15 students from MSW and 30 from Msc Counselling attended the World Alzheimer’s Day event, organized by the People’s Association for Geriatric Empowerment (PAGE) to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and support for the elderly. on September 27, 2024, at the Town Hall in Mangalore.
The programme featured educational sessions, workshops, and panel discussions on early detection, treatment, and caregiver support for Alzheimer’s .Chief guests included Dr. Shripati Rao, Dr. Avin Alva, Dr. Keshav Pai, Dr. Vijaya Louta, Dr. Rameela Shekhar, Dr. Anil Kaikunje, Geraldine Dsouza, and Mohan Raj. The program commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, followed by PAGE’s annual report announcement and an overview of the Buddy Program.
Guest speakers shared insights on Alzheimer’s care, emphasizing the need for community engagement. Students from various colleges actively participated in the event, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. Prizes and certificates were distributed among elderly participants, and the event concluded with a cultural program performed by the elderly, featuring dancing, singing, and skits. A vote of thanks by Mohan Raj brought the event to a close, highlighting the collective effort in Alzheimer’s advocacy and care.
