The Undergraduate BA Departments in association with IQAC and St. Thomas Higher Primary School, Bondanthila, Neermarga Panchayath conducted a day’s Kids Summer Camp “Rise and Shine”- Unlocking your true Potential on Thursday, 3rd April 2025 from 9:30 am to 4 pm at the school premises. Prof. (Dr) Sandra Sunitha Lobo, Dr. Kiran Prasad B, Head Master Mr Eugine A Melwin Braggs, and teachers Ms Celestine D’Souza and Ms Mallika, from both Institutions were present for the inaugural programme.

The students of St. Thomas Higher Primary School, Bondanthila were divided into two groups- Classes I to IV having 18 students and Classes V to VII having 20 students. The morning session for each group involved an ice-breaking session where all students of the school and Roshnites engaged in an innovative way to introduce themselves and ignite their cognitive and creative skills. Their expectations of the camp were asked for and noted down. This was followed by an action song which was not only energizing but activated their senses to be more alert. The next session involved an interactive session of learning to speak in English with a set of 19 already prepared sentences that were required at school, grocery stores etc.

The noon session was activity-based on the topic of Emotions- identification and types. Charts were provided and the students had to draw how they felt and express their emotions via drawings. Self-awareness and awareness of others’ emotions were understood through role plays. Each child was later given a white badge-shaped paper where they had to use sketch pens, coloured pencils and draw their present emotional state through an emoji. The activities not only helped the students engage with their feelings but also created an atmosphere of learning that was fun and educational. The interactive sessions, role plays, and creative expression through drawings allowed the 38 children to unlock their potential, both socially and emotionally.

The Summer camp ended with oral feedback from the participants and learning outcomes. The Kids Summer Camp “Rise and Shine”- Unlocking your true Potential unearthed our talents too in engaging young minds to break free and rise. The overall experience was a reminder of how essential it is to connect with our inner younger selves, while also fostering bilingual skills and emotional intelligence in children.
