CHILDLINE is a national, 24- hour, free, emergency phone and outreach service for children in need of care and protection. Initiated in 1996, as a pilot project in Mumbai, CHILDLINE is currently operational in more than 500 cities across 30 states and UTs in India.
CHILDLINE reaches out to the most marginalized children with the aim of providing them rehabilitation and care from unsafe situations. CHILDLINE provides relief and rehabilitation in the space of shelter, medical aid, repatriation, rescue, emotional support and guidance etc.
In Mangalore CHILDLINE started to ring on 10th May, 2001. The School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya as a Nodal Agency running CHILDLINE since past sixteen years and PADI/VALORED as Collab Agency since 2011.
Open House
Open house programs were conducted in Vidhyanagara, Kurikatta, Jalligudda, Kannuru, Nanthooru Ward, Bokkapatna, Mudipu. The Corporator of the specific area, the government officials of District child protection unit, Police department, Education department, Women and Child Welfare department and the NGO’s, youth clubs of the area had participated. Children of the locality and public also participated in the program and issues related to children, elders, anganwadi building, road, transport, garbage problems were discussed.
School Awareness:
Awareness on ‘CHILDLINE’ was given at more than hundred schools where the service of CHILDLINE& its functioning and 1098 connectivity were told.
Outreach:
Outreach programmes were conducted in and around Mangaluru city by the team members to bring about awareness on CHILDLINE among the public
Capacity Building Training:
A Capacity building training programme was organized for the staff of CHILDLINE team
Mass Awareness:
CHILDLINE Mass awareness was conducted in different area of Mangaluru. Around ten thousand people were given awareness on CHILDLINE and Child Rights. Awareness on CHILDLINE Service, Child sexual abuse issue, parenting, child rights, child protection system, JJ Act, POCSO Act were given to government officers, SHG groups, Children, Parents at Gram sabhas, schools, PTA/ SDMC meetings etc
CHILD LINE Se Dosti Week:
CHILDLINE Se Dosti is a week-long nationwide campaign from the 14th of November to 20th November; this campaign aims at creating friends for CHILDLINE and is envisaged as a warm and inviting initiative to create awareness about 1098. Reaching out to the old and young from all walks of life and bringing together children with their protectors in the form of police officials, allied systems, educational institutions, the youth, working adults and many more, CHILDLINE Se Dosti is not just another campaign but a medium to strengthen the rights of children in India.
A CHILDLINE Dost is someone who chooses to lend a hand to CHILD LINE in helping children in distress. To be a CHILDLINE Dost you need to observe what happens around you, take action when necessary and call CHILDLINE 1098 to help protect children.
CHILDLINE Mangaluru conducted CHILDLINE Se Dosti (CSD) week in the city with following programs
14/11/17: Inauguration of CSD week at BalBhavan Kadri and workshop for Child Care institute staffs on JJ act 2015
15/11/17: awareness program on drug abuse and online safety for PU students of jyothi college
16/11/17: jatha on online safety by the students of Jyothi College and awareness on Child Protection for NSS students of Roshni Nilaya
17/11/17: mass awareness at Bunder area on child labour and asuraksha bandhan band was tied to the public asking say no to child labour
18/11/17: street play on Child abuse and Trafficking was performed by Volunteers of Oasis organisation at KSRTC, Panambur Beach and Meenakalya
19/11/17: CHILDLINE stall was put in Kadri Park and awareness given about CHILDLINE service through pamphlet distribution
20/11/17: concluding program was organised at Lions special school Surathkal
