A Program was organized at the Central Railway Station, Mangaluru as a part of celebration of the International Child Helpline Day marked in the calendar as 17th of May every year.
The day started at 11am sharp at the entrance of Central Railway Station where around 150 people assembled. People from different walks of life witnessed the program. The general public, members of the government departments, Media and Press reporters, students from nursing, Government Officials as dignitaries and the CHILDLINE 1098 Team was present there.
A brief introduction was given on the Significance of International Child Helpline Day, CHILDLINE activities, how the public can approach through the toll free number 1098, 24x7,365days of the year and how the helpline service helps the children in need of care and protection with the guidance and support of allied government departments like the Women and Child Development Department, Police Department (mainly the police commissioner office, Rani Abbakka Team, Railway Police force and the Cyber crime and Narcotic Police dept), the Labor Department, The education department, The Social Welfare Department, The Juvenile Justice Board, District Child Protection Unit and the Child Welfare Committee.
A brief statistics from the South Kanara District was also read out to the public by CHILDLINE Nodal Coordinator Mrs. Lavita D’souza just to give them an idea as to how many cases get reported through CHILDLINE 1098, what type of cases are attended to and how help is given to the children.

Sri Usman and Sri Renni Dsouza spoke on how easily help could be availed through 1098 without a second thought and no child is alone, help can be availed not only by the child but anybody who comes across or sees a distressed child or any kind of unlawful activity being done to children. The government has ensured that the children would be in safe hands and protection would be given the top most priority to each and every child in our society.
An Inauguration was done by all the dignitaries by rolling out the International Helpline Banner.
Awareness Jaatha was organized and was flagged off by the Deputy Station Manager Sri Kishen Kumar and around 120 members out of which mainly nursing college students, MSW students and the Rani Abbakka Women’s Police Team participated in the procession. The Jaatha commenced from the Central Railway Station and concluded at the DC’S Office. A continuous announcement on the importance of the day and the CHILDLINE - 1098 services available was spread through the city.
The announcement continued through the city until 2pm. It was a proud moment for the team of CHILDLINE-1098 to be a part of the one and only Child Helpline of India.
