A training program for individuals working in the fields of Social Work and Counselling was organized at Bishop’s House, Kodialbail, Mangalore on Saturday, 12th August, 2023. Asst. Prof Roshini Monica Goveas and Office Assistant Ms. Reena D’Souza along with forty others from various Educational and Social Work institutions of Mangalore took part in the same.
The program began at 9:30am with the inaugural address by the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese, Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha. This was followed by the first session on the ‘Science of Addiction’ by Dr. Thomas Scaria, Director at Ecolink Institute of Wellbeing Mangalore. The second session was by Ms. Clara Dcunha, Trustee, TELOCA Rehabilitation Centre Mangalore, who spoke about the ‘Prevention Science’. The final session of the day was by Ms. Ida D’Souza, Member at the Juvenile Justice Board, Mangalore and Faculty at MAHE Manipal. Her session was based on the ‘JJ Act and the NDPS Act – it’s Implications on Teens and Present Status’. All the three speakers stressed on the importance of Counsellors and Social Workers in preventing the youth from addictions. They also spoke about their experiences of dealing with children and youth who are drug addicts.
The main intention behind organising this program was to train the trainers to organise workshops in Educational and Religious institutions about drug abuse and its prevention so as to make our society drug free. The program concluded at 1:30pm.
