"Promoting Positive Online Behavior: Cyber Crime Awareness for Children"

On August 7, 2024, Ms. Ankita, who serves as the Head of the Department of Criminology, led an important awareness session on cybercrime at Saint Mary School. The session was attended by 950 students, ranging from grades 1 to 7, who were eager to learn about the digital threats that are becoming increasingly prevalent in today's world.

Ms. Ankita began by introducing the concept of cybercrime, explaining its significance in the modern age where the internet is an integral part of daily life. She carefully outlined the different types of cybercrimes, including identity theft, phishing, online scams, and cyberbullying, ensuring that the students understood the real-world implications of these digital threats.

Understanding that young children are particularly vulnerable to online dangers, Ms. Ankita provided practical advice on how to navigate the internet safely. She discussed the importance of privacy settings, the need to use strong and unique passwords, and the risks associated with clicking on unfamiliar links or sharing personal information online.

Ms. Ankita also emphasized the importance of responsible social media use. She advised students to think carefully before posting or sharing content, reminding them that anything shared online can have lasting consequences. She stressed that personal details, such as addresses, phone numbers, or any identifying information, should never be uploaded to social media platforms, as they could easily be misused by malicious individuals.

The session was not just about highlighting the dangers, but also about empowering the students to be smart and responsible digital citizens. Ms. Ankita encouraged the students to approach the internet with caution and to always prioritize their safety, making it clear that with the right knowledge and habits, they could enjoy the benefits of the digital world while minimizing the risks. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students were given the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts, further reinforcing the lessons they had learned.
