The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized a week-long workshop on ‘Cyber Forensics’ for first year students of MSc CFS from 18th April 2022 till 27th April 2022. Mr. Chirag. C. Suvarna, Analyst, Cyber Sapiens, Mangaluru was the Resource Person. He discussed about the concept of Cyber Forensics through case analysis and misuse of technology to commit crimes. He also spoke about Malwares, viruses, worms and other threats for computer system. Further, he focused on the various factors responsible for the cybercrimes and its preventive techniques.
Being in the field of cyber security, the Criminal Justice System expects evidences which an expert need to collect. Hence, he has explained the process of copying, imaging and extracting information from a hard disk if it is found in the crime scene. Once the theoretical session is completed simultaneous students were exposed to various software used for the detection of cybercrimes. Practical sessions were conducted by giving individual attention to each students on safety measures, seizure of hard disk from a suspected computer, hash calculation and steganography. Altogether, 24 students were trained to handle the simulated cases, investigate and to collect basic information by using relevant software.
