The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized a session on ‘Science of Crime and Criminal Behaviour’ for the first year students of MSc CFS on 15th September 2022 at 11.30 a.m. Ms. Nayana B.R. Assistant Professor, Department of Criminology, Acharya Institute of Graduate Sciences, Bengaluru and an Alumni of the institution was the resource person.
Ms. Nayana explained about the conceptual meaning of crime, the characteristics of crime such as harm, illegal, malafide intention, criminal intention, occurrence of intention and conduct, casual relationship between crime and conduct and prescription of punishment. She also spoke about the pioneer’s classification of criminals given by Cesare Lombroso and Edwin Sutherland. The White Collar Crimes with relevant examples and cases were discussed.
It was an Interactive session where the students actively participated and clarified the queries relevant to the theme. The students expressed that the interactive session was informative and look forward for more such sessions by the field expert. Altogether, 16 students were present during the session. The session concluded at 12.30p.m. with a vote of thanks by Ms. Nashwa Iqbal.
