The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized an academic visit to Anirvedha-Private Counselling Centre for FPCJ Specialization, Kadri, Mangaluru, for Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice (FPCJ) Specialization as a part of their practical curriculum on Friday, 26th May 2023 at 10am. Mr. Roshan D’Souza, Assistant Professor, MSc Criminology and Forensic Science of the college accompanied the students.
The main objective for the visit is to understand the nature of work, administration, services and rehabilitation programmes provided to special children and common individuals who need psychological well-being. Ms. Benzita, main Psychologist, gave a brief note about the structure and functions of the organization. Students were taken to all the units of the organization such as different NIOS, Sensory modules, mainstream activities, disability interventions were shown which was setup for the holistic development of children. There were many interns who used to handle each child and the committees were formed to provide interventions for each child. The setup of the private counselling centre was like a school environment with classrooms, play area, library, washrooms which was well maintained by the caretakers of the children. Further, the students interacted with the children and the staff of the organization to know the effectiveness of rehabilitative programmes and skill training provided to the children.
The students expressed that the visit helped them to understand the procedure to set up a private counselling centre and its main functions. The interaction concluded at 11.30am with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Likhitha V. K. second year student of MSc CFS. Altogether, 7 students, one faculty of the college, 50 children, 20 interns and 10 staff of the organization were present during the visit.
