The Post Graduate Department Criminology and Forensic Science in collaboration with the Anti Human Trafficking Club (AHTC), UG Department of Criminology and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru had organised a Motivational talk on the theme “Make each day your Masterpiece” on 17th August 2023 at 9.30 am in the College Auditorium. Mr. Harold D’Souza, Co-founder and President of Eye Open International was the Resource person.
Mr. Harold D’ Souza shared his personal experience of being trafficked to the United States where he had to go through hardships. He managed to turn the hurdles into his strength and successfully transform into the person he is today wherein he determined to help the victims of Human Trafficking. He also spoke about his family and his living condition where they had to starve for days, was not paid for the work and had to struggle every single day to survive. He said that it took him ten years of struggle to come back to India.
Later, he started an organisation where he helps the victims of trafficking. His speech was motivational and reminded the students about the power of education that holds to choose a career which showcases their true interest. He stated that short term pain is a long term gain, hence encouraged the students to take education seriously and to follow the path they are interested in. During the interactive session students actively participated and clarified the queries.
Students expressed that the session was helpful to understand the struggles of a Victim of Human Trafficking in the strange place and the will power to overcome from the problems. Dr. Sophia N Fernandes, Principal, Ms. Vida Sequeira, President and Ms. Eveleen Benis, Secretory, Institute of Social Services, Ms. Vineetha K, Registrar (Evaluation), HOD’s, Faculties of all the department, students of both Under graduation and Post-Graduation were present on this occasion. The session concluded at 11am. Prof. Cecilia F Goveas, IQAC Coordinator cum Head, Department of Economics of the college introduced the speaker. Ms. Athira V J, Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science delivered the vote of thanks. Ms. Ifra Aysha, a student of III BA compered the whole event. Ms. Jyothsna second year student of MSc Criminology and Forensic Science drafted the report. Altogether, around 180 students and faculties witnessed the session.
