A student exchange program between Karavali College of Education, Mangalore and Department of M.Sc. Counseling, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru was held on 8th June, 2022 at School of Social work, Roshni Nilaya. Thirty five trainee teachers attended the 1 hour 30 minutes program entitled ‘Relevance of Counseling and Role of Teachers in fostering Mental Health in Schools’.
The program comprised of two short sessions designed with the objectives to develop an enhanced understanding of the concept of Guidance and Counseling and its scope in educational settings within the context of mental health. The sessions were taken by Assistant Professors of the counseling department Dr. Wilsy Francis and Ms. Jennifer Carlo and a demonstration of counseling session done by M.Sc. I year counselling students. The participants greatly appreciated the sessions and expressed it as a remarkable learning experience.
The outcome of the session was that the trainee teachers were able to understand more about the significance of guidance and counselling which led them to have an awareness of the various issues among students and how to deal with the same.
