Objectives:
To make the group aware on their level of social networking usage
To educate the group members on various issues like Phubbing, Nomophobia and teach them Mobile Phone Etiiquette.
Professor Cicelia Farida Goveas introduced the participants to the host and invited them to partciapate effectively. Following this Dr. Rosa N Mathew shared the purpose of the session and how the facilitator researched on the topic to create an awareness video. Following this the participants were students of 2nd BA who were divided into three groups. Each of the groups were part of all the three sessions that is Nomophobia, Phubbing and Mobile Etiquettes.
Group 1 was facilitated by Adarsh, Anusha and Ilhaam on the topic Nomophobia which is no mobile phone phobia also referred to as the fear of being detached from phones. The session was an interactive one, where the facilitators creatively engaged the participants with various group activities as an ice breaker, the main agenda of the session was to present and educate the participants about a new concern that the society is facing currently. The group displayed an informative video based on their research and helped the students understand the concept in a simple manner.
Group 2 was facilitated by Shikha, Raksha, Nasreena and Jusaira on the topic Phubbing. This session was conducted with the objective of increasing awareness regarding the phenomenon called Phubbing, the act of ignoring someone in front of you, in order to use your phone. Phubbing has become a major issue in recent times and it has had detrimental effects on relationships, work, friendships and other important areas of life. Therefore, creating awareness regarding this topic could help students take this insight to their everyday lives. The session began with an ice breaker activity. After that the students were asked to take an assessment that would help identify their internet habits. This was followed by a quick introduction of the topic - Phubbing. Then, the students were shown a video on Phubbing, after which they were given an opportunity to give out their thoughts, ideas and insights regarding the video.
Group 3 was facilitated by Prathiksha, Lishana and Saphia explained the topic Mobile Etiquettes. The objective of this session was to make the student population aware about mobile etiquettes and to find out the level of usage of social networking through SNAS. The facilitators conduct the ice-breaker activities. The facilitators then conducted an assessment on level of usages of social networking. Then the video about the mobile etiquettes was shown to the group. The facilitators emphasized some mobile etiquettes. The group members were able to relate to the content presented and shared their experience. The outcome of this session was that they became aware about their behaviour and the basic etiquette that they need to follow and they understood the importance of following mobile etiquettes and the negative consequences associated of not following mobile etiquettes.
All the three groups who attended all the three sessions were asked to give feedback regarding the sessions which were positive. All the groups found the session very informative and interactive.
