A Holistic Forum Activity on “Aham”

A forum activity on the topic “ Aham”, which means I am and can be whatever I want to be, I am in control of my own healing, I can also be capable of others’ healing, was organized by the Holistic Wellbeing forum, Department of M. Sc. Counselling, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, facilitated by 24 I M. Sc. Counselling students on 19th October 2022. A total of 100 students from I and II M. Sc. Criminology and Forensics Sciences, II M. Sc. Counselling, and I MSW from SSW Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru had been the lively participants of the session.

With October being World Mental Health month, the session was planned with the objective being to help the participants realize that they need to heal inwardly before helping others and showing them some ways to understand their own emotions, and equipping them with basic strategies to deal with others dealing with psychological distress. This was done because all the participants belong to service sectors and would come across people with psychological distress and need basic strategies to deal with that situation until the people can get a more permanent solution and to help them see that they needed to work on their emotions before they help others professionally to work on their emotions. Facilitators used various activities to reach the objectives. The outcome of the session was that the participants understood the importance of self-healing and their role in service sector and society members in helping those around them with the best strategies at that moment.
