A extension programme on the topic “Better Health Care Better Tomorrow ” was organized by Department of MSc counselling in association with Palliative Physio Centre Panoor, Kerala facilitated by Adarsh, Anusha, Jusaira, Lishana, Nasreena , Saphia and Sneha, II MSc Counselling students on 14th March 2023. The 25 employees of Palliative Physio Centre , Panoor actively participated in the session.

The objectives of the session was to educate the participants on characteristics required to meet the job role, To equip the participants with skills and knowledge to provide compassionate, effective and appropriate patient care, to equip the participants with skills to communicate with patients and their families and to promote self care practices among participants, and ensure mental well-being.

The facilitators conducted an assessment to assess the competency skills of the participants to work as a palliative health care worker. Facilitators explored through participants the skills required for the palliative health care workers.

The facilitators trained the participants with characteristics and skills required for health care workers like questioning, encouragers, verbal and body language, eye contact etc. The facilitators also trained the participants on how to break bad news with patients and families. Self care Techniques were taught to the participants. The group members were able to relate to the content presented and shared their experience. The outcome of this session was that the participants became aware of skills, breaking bad news to the patients and self care Techniques. They gained knowledge about various self care practices which can be practiced when they feel burned out or exhausted.
