The Holistic Well-Being Forum of the PG Department of Counseling conducted a one-hour session on the topic "Breaking Biases" at Maria Paiva Hall on April 12th, 2023. The facilitators of the session were first-year students of the MSc Counseling program. The participants were PG students from the MSW and MSc in Criminology and Forensic Sciences programs.
The objective of the session was to enhance knowledge and differentiate between normal and abnormal symptoms of mental disorders, and to instill the need to recognize the importance of changing attitudes and approaches to promoting mental health. The session encouraged responding with empathy and care towards those in need.
The facilitators presented symptoms of eating disorders, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and schizophrenia through mini skits and lectures. The session concluded by encouraging the audience to break biases attached to mental health disorders and take initiatives to respond to the needs of those suffering from them without inhibitions.
The session ended with a vote of thanks, followed by a feedback session.
