An extension programme on resisting substance use was organized by department of MSc counselling, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore along with Rosa Mystica High School. The Programme was facilitated by 28 II M Sc counselling students on 25th August 2023 for 110 high-school students who actively participated in the session.
The objective of the session was to share information about risk of substance use and to equip students with skills to resist substance use.
The session was introduced through an activity which integrated a mix of getting to know the students and the introduction of the topic. The facilitators were able to educate the students about substance use and its risk factors in various dimensions of school, family and friends and health.
The facilitators also trained the students with assertiveness techniques such as assertiveness empathy and broken record to resist substance use and educate them with different ways to seek help to resist substances and a short role play was done by the students using the techniques taught. The students had a great time learning through different activities and the session was concluded with a short feedback session followed by refreshments for the group leaders from the school.
