22 students of 2nd Year MSc Counseling conducted an outreach programme on the topic of study skills as a part of psychoeducation. The session was addressed to the students of 6th and 7th grade, of St Raymonds English school, Vamanjoor, Mangalore on 24thFebruary and 27th February 2024. The aim of the session was to increase motivation in students to improve academic performance and to excel in life. The session began at 9:15 am and continued till 12:15 on 24th of February and on 27th February 2:00 pm-3:00 pm. Session one included orientation to the programme and circulating of questionnaires regarding the interest, knowledge and skills towards achieving academic goals. The second session was focused to help members understand the importance of studying. The third session focused on understanding conventional and unconventional careers and set an effective academic goal for the final session aimed to equip students with effective study skills and memory techniques and explored their social support through various activities and exercises.
The students participated actively in all of the sessions. They were able to gain insight into their study skills, they learned techniques like SMART GOALS, Mind mapping, chunking, Acronyms, etc. They also learned conventional and unconventional. Educated the students about 10 steps to achieve their success. Some of the students were able to identify themselves as visual learners, Auditory learners through VARK MODEL. 90 students benefitted from this session.
