World Alzheimer’s Day
To commemorate World Alzheimer’s Day on the 21st of September 2014, Family Cosmos Forum, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work Department ,Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore organized a programme ‘Cherish Your Memories Forever’ on the 23rd at 03:30 p.m. Dr. Shripathy M Bhat, Consultant Psychiatrist from KMC ,Manipal was the speaker on this occasion.
Gathered among the audience were members from Inner Wheel Mangalore, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Age Mangalore, Vishwas trust, St. Antony’s Seminary, Probus Club Mangalore and Parents of the students .
Hoping not to scare the audience, Dr. L.N Bhat specified his intentions to be that of an educator whose sole aim was to help people help themselves and others around them. He gave the audience a general awareness on Alzheimer’s dementia.
Alzheimer’s disease is a disorder of the brain, usually cropping up after the age of 60, which affects the memory and decreases the capabilities of a person to perform day to day activities. Dr. L.N Bhat brought out the differences between forgetfulness and dementia and methods of identifying and preventing it which was very helpful and was also a relief to many. Keeping the brain active by learning new things, solving puzzles and following a healthy diet were some of the preventive measures he recommended one to take to avoid this impending ailment.
