World Cancer Day 2025 was observed on 4th February 2025, organized by the Family Cosmos Forum in association with IQAC, under the guidance of Dr. Meena Monteiro, Dean of PG Studies, Ms.Ramya B Asst.Prof, MSW Dept School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya. The event aimed to raise awareness about cancer, its causes, impact, and preventive measures, engaging students in meaningful discussions on this critical health issue.

The program began with a welcome speech by Ms.Rizwana, who welcomed the Gathering and emphasized the importance of cancer awareness. Ms.Elsa then introduced World Cancer Day, explaining its significance as an initiative by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to promote education and preventive strategies. She highlighted the role of early diagnosis and emotional support in improving patient outcomes.

Ms.Aleena provided an informative session on cancer and its causes, explaining its uncontrolled cell growth and common types like lung, breast, leukaemia, and colorectal cancer. She discussed key risk factors, including genetics, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, poor diet, obesity, and infections like HPV and hepatitis B. Aleena stressed the importance of genetic screening and early intervention in reducing cancer risks.

Ms.Lenisha spoke on the impact of cancer on individuals and families, addressing the emotional, physical, and financial challenges faced by patients and their loved ones. She emphasized the need for strong family support, counselling, and long-term care for survivors. She also discussed preventive measures, urging the audience to adopt a healthy lifestyle, undergo regular screenings, and get vaccinated against HPV and hepatitis B.

In closing, Ms.Lenisha shared a message from Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, who is in remission from cancer, emphasizing hope, resilience, and the power of recovery. The event concluded with an inspiring quote: "Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly."

The World Cancer Day program was a resounding success, inspiring participants to take proactive steps in the fight against cancer. Through awareness, early detection, and community support, we can strive for a cancer-free future. A total of 45 students actively participated in the session.
