On 16th November 2022 at 2:30 pm a session on the training program on Children's Parliament was held in the college Amphitheatre. The session began by invoking the blessings of God the Almighty with the prayer song by Rev Fr. Amar Rai. Soon after prayer Dr. Jenis Mary Vice Principal of the college welcomed the Speaker of the day Mr. Gyanashekar and his colleague Mr. Gokul along with Dr. Prof. Evelyn Benis the Head of the Department of Social Work along with the other faculty members by calling them into the dais. Soon after that Dr. Jenis Mary introduced the resource person to the gathered crowd. Gyanashekar and Gokul from Tamil Nadu were former child parliamentarians, now on a mission to promote Children's Parliaments in India and elsewhere by walking from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. They visited The School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya on the way to their National Yatra to conduct one day training program and screening the movie on, “Power to the Children”.
The resource person gave us the genesis of the Children Parliament in his own village through the true story of his own cousin who passed away as she was carrying child at the age of 16 when he was just a nine years old, due to unavailability of hospital in their village . Since he grew up in the stereo type of village where the child marriage and the caste system was being practiced strictly. This particular way of life led him to be a social activist. The process of Children Parliament was being introduced and the benefit of involving the children for the changes. He spoke about the cases that he faced and clarified the doubts and query on it. At the end of session the platform was opend for the questions which were being answered by him. In solidarity with Mr. Gyanashekar we all joined the procession from Amphitheater to Basket ball court with Slogan “Think Globely, work Globely, Children Parliament Save the rights Save the World”, followed by the group photo with the Banner and vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Prof. Evelyn Benis. Then the Dr. Jenis Mary requested students to volunteer and come forward for working for Children's Parliament in our neighborhood. A few of the students obliged. Later students had a march from the amphitheatre to the entrance of the college to show our solidarity with the team leaders of Children’s Parliament. At 4.30p.m this programme cocluded.
